Save Money and CO2
Posted on 26 Nov 2008 under Green TipsGreen Tips icon
Save some money this year and at the same time save CO2 by being more responsible and conscious of the environment.

Do some work around the house and change your commuting habits and the payoff could be big. You will save money and over 3000 pounds of CO2 per year.

  • Turn down your thermostat by 2 degrees in winter and raise by 2 degrees in summer.
  • Run dishwasher only when full and on its energy-saver mode.
  • Wash clothes in cold water rather than hot, and dry half your clothes on the clothes line or drying rack.
  • Plug electronics into power strip and turn off when not in use ,and insulate your water heater.
  • Clean your refrigerator's coils and defrost it regularly.
  • Replace one 70 watt bulb with a 9 watt LED.
  • Caulk and weatherstrip your home.
  • Take the bus or train to work one day a week.
  • Keep tires properly inflated, and try to hypermile while driving. An easy way to do this is not to rev above 2000rpm, and no hard braking. My fuel consumption went from 1 tank/5 days to 1 tank/9 days. Easy and immediate results.
